Biometrics Collection Exemption for Temporary Residence Applicants within Canada

Temporary residence applicants applying from within Canada are exempt from giving biometrics until further notice.

Applicants are covered under this policy if they are in Canada and they are applying for

  • a work permit;
  • a work permit extension;
  • a study permit;
  • a study permit extension;
  • a visitor visa;
  • a visitor record to remain in Canada as a visitor;
  • restoration of temporary resident status; or
  • a temporary resident permit.

If you are applying for temporary residence from within Canada, do not pay the $85 biometric fee, even if the system asks you to pay it when you submit your application. If you have already paid the fee, it will be refunded to you.
